A coming of age story of a young boy in the times of World War II in the Pacific Theatre, we follow the exploits of a very young Christian Bale the most memorable part was the Mustang fly past with a wave. I think it is my favourite Speilberg film.

Empire of the Sun is a 1987 American epic coming-of-age war film based on J. G. Ballard's semi-autobiographical 1984 novel of the same name. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Christian Bale, John Malkovich, Miranda Richardson and Nigel Havers. The film tells the story of Jamie "Jim" Graham, a young boy who goes from living in a wealthy British family in Shanghai, to becoming a prisoner of war in a Japanese internment camp, during World War II. (Wikipedia text)
