Chasing Tiger Beetles

Image
Merivale Gardens in Ottawa Saturday this weekend went exploring the sand dunes of the Piney Forest and was lucky to find the Tiger Beetles out on the dunes in the warm sun. I didn't get a chance to photograph any last year but I did come across a number on the sandy beaches of Petrie Island in eastern Ottawa. I think this is the first time I photographed Tiger Beetles with my new Canon EOS R7 with the 100mm macro lens. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the photos being that the insects are hard to find not moving or flying about. The sand dunes at Merivale Gardens has three species of beetle including the Ghost, LeConte's and the Eastern Sand. This time I came across the most common LeConte's/Festive Beetle. LeConte's Tiger Beetle ( Cicindela scutellaris lecontei ) Merivale Gardens, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Hoping I will get some more varieties this summer I would most definitely like to get some shots of the Ghost but unfortunately they are getting hard to...

Britannia Conservation Area American Red Squirrel ( Tamiasciurus hudsonicus ) Britannia Conservation Area, Mud Lake, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. All packed away in a brand new camera backpack that is so comfortable and nice a snug.  Wild Columbine  ( Aquilegia canadensis ) Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Canada Anemone ( Anemone canadensis ) Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Just a few flowers from my father's garden using the 100 macro lens. This weekend I plan to photograph wild orchids in the Marlborough Forest here in Ottawa, it is the largest Conservation Area that our city has. Anyways back to Mud Lake, where I photographed a Giant Swallowtail for the first time. I have photographed the caterpillar before at Shirleys Bay bu...

I Have a Brand new Guitar But first let's see what it can do KC from the Sunshine Band & the Spiders from Mars Marci took this picture And this how I introduce my new camera featuring the lovely KC and her beautiful eyes that look like diamonds. A new camera you may ask, yes, a Canon EOS R7 choosing not to go with the R5 or the Nikon D850 . Those two will be purchased when ready, first being the Nikon and then finally the Canon but where would I go from there ? Maybe a Leica , I have used their lenses on other cameras and have said to myself "Damn baby you are fine & fit." iPhone 13 Pro photo So that will be it for my camera technology ? I should invest in a telephoto zoom lense at some point, probably when I get too old to chase all these creature features that I do when I go out there to the wilderness. But for now I still like getting close to the critters as long as they let me, mostly accommodating, mostly. My cameras' are my guitars & sometimes th...
