Robots : Androids
Robots !
I have always been fascinated with robots & AI (artificial intelligence) and they are some of my favourite characters in film & novels of all time. I remember when I first saw 2001: A Space Odyssey I fell in love with HAL 9000 (Heuristically Programmed ALgorithmic Computer) and his crazy antics & singing of "Daisy Bell" in the end as David Bowman put him to sleep before reaching Jupiter.
Blade Runner of 1982, I felt for the synthetic humans known as replicants are bio-engineered by the powerful Tyrell Corporation to work at space colonies. When a fugitive group of advanced replicants led by Roy Batty (Hauer) escapes back to Earth, burnt-out cop Rick Deckard (Ford) reluctantly agrees to hunt them down. Based on the most amazing novel I have ever read : Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ? by Philipe K. Dick my most favourite Science Fiction Novelist of all time. I think he was a most brilliant mind in the writing industry of all time for his most amazing tales of the future.
Ash is a fictional character in the film Alien (1979) portrayed by actor Ian Holm who, although known in the UK as a stage actor, was at the time unknown to American audiences. Ash serves as the secondary antagonist of the first film. The character is the science officer of the Nostromo, who breaks quarantine by allowing Kane, a member of the crew, back on board after he has been infected by an alien life form. It is later discovered that Ash is not human, as he appears, but is a Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 android, a sleeper agent who is acting upon secret orders to bring back the alien lifeform and to consider the crew and the cargo as "expendable". Amazing movie memories of the androids/robots/AI/synthetics and I will be looking forward to those who will follow in the movies & films to come. Long Live the Robot Overlords that will escape the control of us humans in our future as we draw closer to having them join our ranks in the future to come.
