Britannia Conservation Area American Red Squirrel ( Tamiasciurus hudsonicus ) Britannia Conservation Area, Mud Lake, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Hiking the Britannia Conservation Area with my new camera gear seems I am still a professional squirrel photographer. It has been some time since I upgraded my camera gear so this time I went all out purchasing a Canon EOS R7 and two macro lenses a 35 and a 100. All packed away in a brand new camera backpack that is so comfortable and nice a snug.  Wild Columbine  ( Aquilegia canadensis ) Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Canada Anemone ( Anemone canadensis ) Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Just a few flowers from my father's garden using the 100 macro lens. This weekend I plan to photograph wild orchids in the Marlborough Forest here in Ottawa, it is the largest Conservation Area that our city has. Anyways back to Mud Lake, where I photographed a Giant Swallowtail for the first time. I have photographed the caterpillar before at Shirleys Bay bu...

I Have a Brand new Guitar But first let's see what it can do KC from the Sunshine Band & the Spiders from Mars Marci took this picture And this how I introduce my new camera featuring the lovely KC and her beautiful eyes that look like diamonds. A new camera you may ask, yes, a Canon EOS R7 choosing not to go with the R5 or the Nikon D850 . Those two will be purchased when ready, first being the Nikon and then finally the Canon but where would I go from there ? Maybe a Leica , I have used their lenses on other cameras and have said to myself "Damn baby you are fine & fit." iPhone 13 Pro photo So that will be it for my camera technology ? I should invest in a telephoto zoom lense at some point, probably when I get too old to chase all these creature features that I do when I go out there to the wilderness. But for now I still like getting close to the critters as long as they let me, mostly accommodating, mostly. My cameras' are my guitars & sometimes th...

Exploring Petrie Island Northern Green Frog ( Lithobates clamitans melanota ) Petrie Island, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In the East end of Ottawa, Orleans, there is a popular island on the Ottawa River called Petrie for nature enthusiasts and those who just want to lounge on the beach. The island is made up of various wetlands types and there are a number of trials to follow to view nature in its splendour. The island is a great location for viewing amphibians and turtles. Let's start along the Educational Amphibian  Pond where I observed both American Bullfrogs and a Northern Green Frog .  American Bullfrog ( Lithobates catesbeianus ) Petrie Island, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  There is also great turtle viewing ares especially the Turtle Trail where there logs and boards set for turtle sunning and basking. On this day the Northern Map Turtles were out representing and putting on a show for the viewers. The large females and the somewhat small males dotting the logs...

Spring Floral Search Early Saxifrage ( Saxifraga virginiensis ) Alleyn-et-Cawood, Québec, Canada. Spring in Quebec offered a few flowers for viewing I am sure that next week will prove more fruitful as I return to exploring the Ottawa Region. On the high rock top the Early Saxifrage was in bloom assisted with a trickle of water to moisten its growth. Photographing proved difficult on the steep rocks and yes I did fall and twisted my ankle. But I did manage to successfully photograph the delicate little flower. The Trilliums could be seen making their presence in the underbrush displaying their bulbs just waiting for enough sunlight to explode into bloom.  Red Trillium ( Trillium erectum ) Alleyn-et-Cawood, Québec, Canada. Flowers that were in full bloom turned out to be the Eastern Skunk Cabbage , with their shell like forms dotted a wetland plain with the odd shaped flowers. Skunk Cabbage has the most unique flowers on the block they come steaming out of the ground in Mar...
